The Wind Rises is the first film Hayao Miyazaki has directed since 2008’s Ponyo, and we could not be more excited for its American release. The film will be Miyazaki’s first adult-oriented drama since Princess Mononoke, and will tell the story of Horikoshi Jiro, the designer of the Zero planes that were used during World War II. Not only will Miyazaki’s love of flight be the center of a film for the first time since Porco Rosso, but his extraordinary ability to find the human stories within larger dramas will, we’re sure, make this an animation event. Watch the four-minute Japanese trailer below!

On another note, I got sick of the capchas so I finally registered for the site. The capcha was “fastto fembout”. Now all I can think about is a fat fembot.

This looks like an interesting story. At its introduction, the Zero was arguably the best carrier based fighter in the world, a beautiful piece of engineering. Contrast that engineering elegance with the rather dubious aims that it was used to pursue, and you have the elements of a very compelling tale.

Miyazaki takes the mundane and makes it magical. I can’t wait to see it.

if it had had self sealing gas tanks and a bit more armor, all of our movies might be anime today.

Wow! I have always enjoy these animation films by Hayao Miyazaki, never fails to bore me. So far, my favourite one is Spirited Away. I have watched it over 5 times! Judging from the trailer, this one seems pretty good. :’)
