The Wind Rises is the first film Hayao Miyazaki has directed since 2008’s Ponyo, and we could not be more excited for its American release. The film will be Miyazaki’s first adult-oriented drama since Princess Mononoke, and will tell the story of Horikoshi Jiro, the designer of the Zero planes that were used during World War II. Not only will Miyazaki’s love of flight be the center of a film for the first time since Porco Rosso, but his extraordinary ability to find the human stories within larger dramas will, we’re sure, make this an animation event.
